366 days and counting

Way back, way way back, in the spring of 1996, I went out for a beer with a few friends. One of these friends went to college with a girl that she was meeting at a pub in The City. (We lived in the ‘burbs, my friends and I). There were four of us, piled into an old Firebird that evening: myself, the aforementioned girl — Carrie — and two Jeremys. One can never have enough Jeremys. Jeremii? (Carrie was dating Jeremy No. 2, and Jeremy No. 1 and I went along so that we could pick another friend up after work. This is complicated.)

So, the pub. It’s an odd little place on Main St. called The Penny Lane. I’m not kidding.

The four of us sat down to have a beer or two with Carrie’s friend, whose name, it turned out, was Sarah. Sarah and I got along pretty well right from the start. We started talking and didn’t really stop until Jeremy No. 1 pointed out that it was time to go and pick up our errant friend. Sarah and I had quite forgotten that they were there. Oops.

On the way back into our ‘burb I asked Carrie a little more about Sarah. Specifically: was she single and available. Carrie, rather obliquely, said no.

And there it ended.

Twice more over the next couple of years my path crossed Sarah’s while I was hanging around with Jeremy and Carrie. (And twice more, Sarah’s hair colour changed, but that’s another blog entry.) We tried for more often, but it was sometimes quite hard to work out. So, basically, twice. No, I lie. Thrice. But that last one was just one time when Jeremy No. 2 and I went to pick up Carrie at Sarah’s apartment.

We call this phase Courtship pt. 1. Fascinated, aren’t you?

Updates about updates

For as long as this blog has been in existence — and now spanning two site designs — I’ve meant to bring design parity to the extra pages of this blog. This includes the comments page, the monthly archive, and the archives of each individual entry.

I’ve finally worked up to doing it, and that’s the way that it works now. All pages of this blog now share a common look and feel.

Tomorrow night: Sarah’s blog.

Some spam is fun

Isn’t it strange that people get spam on their blogs? I think so.

But early today Sarah got a really interesting one:

Certain things are too horrible to auction on the Web.
Consider that eBay recently halted auctions on:

Human Remains
Human Parts
Humans
Microsoft Products

Pretty soon they’re gonna ban sales on pentagrams and demon-summoning
paraphenalia.

Is there anywhere on the web where it’s still safe to sell Evil Things?”

I find it very interesting that Microsoft products are equated with nasty, nasty things. Ah, the joys of being a Mac user.
